Restore deleted files on iCloud

Written on November 26, 2016

The other day I was deleting a bunch of files from MindNode, a mind-mapping app for iOS and after I was done cleaning up, I was looking for a file I was recently working on and couldn’t find it.

I was panicking because it was a mind-mapping session that took me an hour to complete and although I could remember some of the things that I had captured and probably could do it again, at that point I was defeated and pissed :triumph:.

I wondered if iCloud had a recover feature like Dropbox and to my delight it does. So here’s how to rescue deleted files from iCloud.

  1. You’ll need to log onto icloud.com from your browser.

  2. Once you’re logged in click on the Settings icon or you can type icloud.com/#settings to access it directly.

  3. In the bottom left hand corner there is a section titled Advanced, there is an option titled, Restore Files. Click on that link.

  4. Click the checkbox next to the file you want to restore and then click on Restore which should show once you select a file.

After you restore the file, you should see it show up again in your iCloud folder or if you’re restoring a file for a specific app, it should reappear within the app.

  5. Do a little victory dance :dancer:
