Show the current time in a tmux pane

Written on April 9, 2018

Showing the current time in a tmux pane is a feature that I discovered by accident. Although I’ve got tmux setup to show the current time in the bottom right hand corner, I actually liked this accidental discovery as it looked nice with my terminal color scheme.

To show the current time in a tmux pane, you’ll want to press prefix + t. This will take the pane you’re currently focused in and show the current time. Visually it’s nice because it’ll hide everything that was currently in the pane and show the time centered in the pane.

To dismiss the time and return to what was in the pane previously, press any alphanumeric or Esc key.
